IECC 2009 Verification

The IECC 2009 code has mandatory testing aspects included, that require a Home Energy Rater (HERS) to perform energy performance testing of air infiltration with a device called a "blower door". A blower door slightly de-pressurizes the home and determines the amount of air leakage present. This testing is mandatory when following the prescriptive approach of compliance.

The code also has a provision for following a performance approach, which allows for more flexibility in design of the home, as long as the complete home design meets the code requirements.
